Rancher offers two separate (yet complementary) services aimed at easing the management of Docker in production environments: Rancher and RancherOS.
Rancher
Rancher is an open source software that provides a complete platform for managing Docker in production. The software allows you to easily manage hosts, deploy containers, and monitor resources across a cluster. Rancher also brings critical components such as load balancing, network normalization and storage management.
RancherOS
RancherOS is a minimalist Linux-derived operating system that runs all user-space Linux services delivered in Docker containers. RancherOS's approach eliminates the need for init systems by controlling all Linux services directly from Docker.
