Speaker 1: Harikrishna Patnala Speaker 2: Nicolas Vazquez This talk introduces the recent changes on the Vmware vSphere integration with CloudStack. These changes make the CloudStack vSphere integration more efficient and extend it by introducing many features which were not supported by CloudStack and would be beneficial to the operators of vSphere-based CloudStack clouds. The vSphere integration improves different operations benefiting from the new implementations of the vSphere native AP, for operations such as VM migrations, snapshots, deployment. Apart from the improvements on the existing operations, it now also supports new storage types: vSAN, VMFS6 and VVOLs. Also, it introduces the storage management concepts of Datastore Clusters and Storage Policies into Cloudstack. It also brings support to deploying virtual appliances with a new optional mode of deployment (deploy-as-is) as if they were deployed directly from vSphere, meaning that CloudStack supports different deployment options, configurations, vApp properties, etc; which are parsed from the template OVF file descriptor.
Cloud computing has established itself as a unique paradigm to deliver computing as utility to a wide range of scientific, enterprise, government, industrial and consumer applications. However, there were much concern in both industry and academia about security, performance, resource and usage monitoring for cloud applications. CloudStack has a long proven track record, vibrant community and extensive online documentation. However, topics such as security monitoring, resource usage, host metrics, application metrics and IP address allocation in the cloud are still highly under investigated and poorly covered. In this talk, we consider a typical SMB private cloud use case with Apache CloudStack as a cloud orchestration tool. We are going to show how to set up Prometheus metrics exporter and visualize a critical cloud application metrics with Grafana. We will run a live monitoring for important resources like CPU/RAM/Storage usage, IP pools usage and VM metrics.

This session walks attendees through the idea of using Terraform, Ansible and Kubernetes to orchestrate and run a production-ready CloudStack deployment, across bare-metal and virtualised infrastructure with minimal human operator involvement. We'll also discuss the pros and cons of such an approach vis-a-vis the traditional method where CloudStack's management server and compute nodes are deployed directly on nodes without containers.
From telecoms to managed service providers, many companies are seeking to capture market share within the fast growing cloud computing market. One of the largest challenges service providers face is around how to best assemble a portfolio of cloud services that they can deliver, operate and chargeback for through a normalized user interface and APIs. Building on the strong foundations of CloudStack, cloud.ca, a regional Canadian cloud provider has been using CloudMC as their platform for many years to service the cloud needs of over one hundred business customers, spanning multiple industry verticals (ie. public sector, healthcare and life sciences, financial institutions and SaaS companies). This presentation is for service providers who want to assemble, deliver, operate and monetize cloud services leveraging CloudStack, as well as complementary cloud services (ie. bare metal, object storage, hyperscale clouds, kubernetes, etc.) to meet the evolving needs of their business customers.
CloudStack supports multiple options for primary storage - local storage, NFS, Ceph, iSCSI, etc. Not all types of storage support all features on all hypervisors. Live migration between different storages is also not widely supported. In this presentation, we’ll show the capabilities and limitations of the most popular storage types and will present the new options of live storage migration between some of the storage types that are currently under development by our company.
Many web hosting company who are into the business of selling dedicated servers have their own hardware's but they don't have a easy entry into the Public Cloud since they don't have a cost effective Management portal to offer to their customers. We have already started the development of a ACS Management Portal which is going to be very cost effective and easy for the companies who want's to make entry into Selling Public Cloud using CloudStack. We will be offering it at very optimal cost with very user friendly UI/UX.
Network functions virtualization (NFV) is rapidly changing the networking landscape, virtual network functions (VNFs) are replacing classical hardware based network functions and moving the 'brains' of the network from dedicated hardware to virtual machines. The rise of VNFs allows for complex network functions to be deployed to locations previously inaccessible at the edge of networks, allowing for enterprises to control their networks at the border and not only at the core, which is especially important with the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Cyber-Physical systems (CPSs). VNFs can be used for functions such as routers, load balancers, firewalls, intrusion detection devices (IPS/IDS), WAN accelerators, VPN endpoints, SD-WAN, session border controllers, route reflectors and many others. Apache Cloudstack can be leveraged in order to enable and automate the deployment of VNFs in datacentres and at the edge, ACS can also consume VNFs driven networks by using SD-WAN, WAN optimization and other technologies to create the underlying networking infrastructure on top of which ACS stands.
System-relevant institutions, especially those that operate critical infrastructures, face a wide range of challenges: Immensely sensitive data, high certification requirements for service providers, and they must be able to fulfill the permanent functioning of IT systems with multiple emergency scenarios. However, their legacy systems are often outdated and the modernization of IT landscapes is much more complex than in the free, non-regulated economy. This is exactly where open source technologies can be a solution to various requirements and challenges. Sven Vogel outlines the problem horizon and shows how cloudstack technology comes into play.

Deployment and management of Kubernetes(K8S) clusters is hard, and managing clusters across different cloud platforms has proven to be an even bigger challenge considering each provider has their own choice of tooling for deploying K8S Clusters. The Kubernetes community saw a need to devise a standardized way to deploy and manage clusters across different infrastructures. Thus, the Kubernetes SIG Cluster Lifecycle created the Cluster API project - which addresses these challenges. It provides a declarative Kubernetes-style pattern to automate cluster deployments. Some of the top cloud providers have extended this model to facilitate consistent and repeatable deployments across infrastructures. With CloudStack adopting this Kubernetes-native style for cluster deployment, one will be able to provision their clusters with minimal effort and will encourage users to manage Kubernetes workloads in hybrid / multi-cloud environments.
