Ygor Pereira, Senior Associate Consultant, New York 🌎 I'm originally from Mount Vernon, New York, and my whole family is Brazilian. That's what makes me Latino. My parents moved from Brazil in 1998 and changed their entire lifestyle to build a better future for our family. My dad was a professional scuba diver in Brazil and became a carpenter in the US, a drastic change that took enormous courage. Persevering through all the challenges of being an immigrant has been a theme I've witnessed in my family, and it gives me a lot of gratitude for the position I was born into. 🙏 Growing up, I had a lot of people who believed in me. One person I think of immediately is my high school counselor, who was always there to listen and inspire me to aim higher than I initially thought I could. Her belief in me led me to USC, which I didn't think was a possibility at first. Recently, I started a scholarship for seniors at my high school. I think if every 1 out of 100 people does the same for 100 others, we will see the power of compounding impact. 🌟 Something I love about Hispanic Heritage Month is that more stories are getting shared among colleagues at work, giving everyone more perspective and empathy for one another. 💡 My advice: zoom out sometimes. Growth is not always linear. It happens in waves. If you compare today to a year ago, I'm sure you're doing a heck of a lot better. Trust that you're trying your best, keep a good attitude, and things will work out in the end.
