About us
District Angels aims to foster a collaborative investment community in the DC metro area to accelerate the success of groundbreaking startups. We’re open to opportunities from all geographies, and have a special affinity for companies with ties to the DMV: whether through their team, target market, or expansion plans. We are industry-agnostic and open to all sectors. We will seek opportunities at pre-seed, seed, and for the right deal, Series A stages. We plan to invest a minimum of $100,000 (collectively) to propel early-stage startups, and keep our per check minimums low at 1.5-2K to make investing accessible to all

🎉 Two competitions down! The D.C. Regional Competition for Battle of the Regions is in the books! We're proud to have co-hosted alongside District Angels, DC Startup & Tech Week (Formerly DC Startup Week), and the Abell Foundation Inc, with support from sponsors like our strategic partners at Play Money! Huge congratulations to every founder who took the stage last week! Your energy, your stories, and the quality of your pitches made for an incredible night. We were especially thrilled to see two founders from our own community compete: Bill Keating of Portfolio Insights LLC and Shannon Arvizu, Ph.D. of GroundVue. We're so proud of how you both represented the D.C. startup ecosystem. It was also great to see friends like Adam Smith representing Zeal Capital Partners, one of our portfolio funds, on the judges' panel. We'd also like to extend a special thanks to Casey Williams of Fenway Summer, Haley Bryant of Hustle Fund, and Vincent Perez of Long View Partners for your time, perspective, and expertise in helping identify D.C.'s most promising ventures. A special shoutout to our very own Program Manager, Ryan Pierce, who gave remarks and represented the Inspire Access team on stage! Last but certainly not least, congratulations to Shannon Arvizu, Ph.D. and the GroundVue team on taking 1st place and advancing to the championship at DCSTW on October 23rd. We'll be cheering you on! 🏆 Next up: the Maryland Regional Competition on October 7th! 📅 RSVP here: https://lnkd.in/eNC_tSia If you're interested in supporting organizations like these with philanthropic capital, apply here: https://lnkd.in/eutJmuyT If you're a founder looking to raise philanthropic capital through Inspire Access's vehicle, apply here: https://lnkd.in/ePrF5iFQ #BattleOfTheRegions #DMV #InspireAccess #DCStartups

CALLING ALL ANGELS!! 📣 📣 Tomorrow, District Angels takes the stage alongside some of our favorites - Play Money!, New Dominion Angels, Inspire Access Inc. - to talk about how to get started (or find deeper footing) in local angel networks, the opportunities we’re seeing, the coalitions we’re building, and how we’re doubling down to activate more check writers across the region. Angel investors are some of the most underestimated catalysts in the innovation economy and we need more. Invite-only: DM us or comment below and we’ll get you the signup link! Help us spread the word 🙌 Thank you Pauline Shiu and Maryland Innovation Center for all your hard work and dedication to supporting founders!
🦇 When I put up the bat signal just a few weeks ago, MAN DID YOU GUYS DELIVER!! On 9/24, the Maryland Innovation Center will be hosting ~100 investors from across the Mid-Atlantic for engaging conversations, awesome networking and -no doubt- resulting in a stronger investment community to fuel the DMV. 🚀 🙌 Thank you to our Sponsors and Speakers: Thuy Le with HSBC Innovation Banking, Karina Oshunkentan with Haynes and Boone, LLP, Michael Iwanczuk, CPA with Weaver and Bret Schreiber with Fulton Bank 🤘 Other amazing speakers include Matt Gittleman with VC in DC, Cheryl Kellond 💎 with Play Money!, Hemant Shah with Starrlight Advisory, Deborah Hemingway, PhD with Ecphora Capital, Naviya Kothari with District Angels, Jeremy Bauman with New Dominion Angels, Ryan Pierce with Inspire Access Inc., and Our Fave Angels / LPs: Shannon Sentman Greg Miller If you're a VC or Family Office, Angel, LP (or someone interested in becoming an Angel), comment below or DM me! I'd be happy to send you the private invitation link. (you can also email micinfo@hceda.org) 🎟️ Last but not least, have to say thank you to Andrey Mikhalchuk and Anca Burke with Station Alpha for ALL their help with the event, Justin Brodie-Kommit, Ph.D. and Kavita Verma for their support even though they can't be here, and our awesome volunteer behind the scenes helping me 🙏 I'm extremely grateful for you guys! It takes a village to support an ecosystem.

Big few weeks for Virginia founders. I judged Battle of the Regionsons, where 4 organizations ( Inspire Access Inc., District Angels, DC Startup & Tech Week (Formerly DC Startup Week), Abell Foundation Inc, came together to host multiple events and put founders from every part of the DMV on the stage. I hate judging pitch competitions. These founders are giving everything they have, and that doesn't go unnoticed by me sitting on the other side of the table. I got the privilege of hosting lightning pitches for 10 companies at VCU TechTransfer and Ventures Startup Showcase, held at the General Assembly. I want to name who was in that room, because it mattered. Secretary of Commerce and Trade Carrie Chenery, Delegate Lindsey Dougherty, MPA, CRA, VCU President Michael Rao, Dr. Srirama Rao, and Mayor of Richmond Danny TK Avula all made time for founders that day. When people at that level show up for startups, it tells you something about where this state is headed. (Thank you Brent Fagg for the invite!) Last night I got to just be an audience member at the Innovate Hampton Roads Virginia Cup. I cheered on four Lighthouse Network companies, Hardshell, Liquet Medical Inc., Absurd Snacks, and VroomBrick. Hardshellell took home the prize!! That's three rooms, three weeks, and a whole lot of founders proving what Virginia has to offer. If you're building something here, keep going. I see you. #startups #foundersupport #virginia #dmv #rva

On September 15th, 12 DC founders will compete for just 3 spots at the Battle of the Regions Championship — where the top founders from across the region will face off to crown the best founder in the region. One more region gets represented at the Championship. And ICYMI: The Championship winner moves on to compete for a $1M cash prize at Pegasus Tech Ventures Startup World Cup!
