What does it take to turn a difficult start into an October campaign? This week on the WHOOP Podcast, WHOOP Global Head of Human Performance and Principal Scientist Dr Kristen Holmes PhD sits down with Boston Red Sox stars Willson Contreras and Wilyer Abreu to talk about the trust, preparation, and recovery behind their season. Together, they reflect on navigating adversity, building a team-first clubhouse, performing under the pressure of playing in Boston, and preparing for the heightened intensity of October baseball. Three takeaways from their conversation stood out to us: 1. Winning starts with trust. For Contreras and Abreu, one of the biggest factors behind this season’s turnaround was learning to trust the teammate next to them. After a difficult start to the season, Abreu says the team never stopped believing in what it was capable of. The players knew that if they couldn’t get the job done in a particular moment, the teammate behind them could. Contreras brings a similar philosophy to leadership: make everyone feel like they’re part of the team, whether they’re a veteran or a recent call-up. As he puts it, “you win the game in the locker room first.” 2. Great performers prepare for pressure before it arrives. October baseball brings more noise, more emotion, and more intensity, but Abreu says the key is not allowing that energy to speed you up. Contreras adds that the situations that decide October games need to be practiced before they happen. Whether it’s moving over a runner, adjusting an approach at the plate, or anticipating the next play, preparation allows athletes to respond instead of react when the pressure is highest, so you know what to do when it arrives. 3. Recovery is part of respecting the game. Across the 162-game season, performance longevity matters. Contreras credits his own longevity in part to being intentional about sleep, nutrition, recovery, and using tools like WHOOP to understand what his body needs. He sees a direct connection between recovery and how he shows up mentally: when he sleeps well, he feels more focused, patient, and recovered. Contreras’ philosophy is simple: taking care of yourself means showing up at 100%, and that isn’t just a responsibility to yourself. It’s a way of respecting your teammates and the work everyone has put in together. Listen to the latest episode of the WHOOP Podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or YouTube.

Building true wealth goes beyond what you have in your bank account. This week on the WHOOP Podcast, WHOOP Founder and CEO Will Ahmed sits down with Investor, Entrepreneur, Wealth Expert and NY Times Best Selling Author Sahil Bloom to explore what it really takes to live a healthy life. Together, Will and Sahil discuss why success extends beyond financial wealth and why investing in your health, relationships, time, and sense of purpose can change the way you experience your life. Three takeaways from their conversation stood out to us: 1. Your health is the foundation for everything else: Physical wealth enables you to experience every aspect of a fulfilling life. Sahil argues that becoming healthier doesn’t need to mean complicated protocols or extreme optimization. Start with the fundamentals: move for 30 minutes a day, eat whole, unprocessed foods, and get seven hours of sleep. From there, having a physical goal to work toward whether it’s a marathon, a new sport, or another challenge can create structure, energy, and momentum that carries into the rest of your life. 2. Relationships are investments that compound over time. When life gets busy, relationships can be one of the first things to fall by the wayside. Sahil encourages us to think about them differently: like investments, where small actions today can compound into something much greater over time. A text to a friend, a call to a parent, or making plans to spend time together may seem small, but consistently prioritizing connection can have a profound impact on the richness of your life. 3. Don’t optimize your life so much that you forget to live it. Discipline and delayed gratification matter but so does enjoying what you’ve worked for. Sahil follows a 90/10 approach: spend roughly 90% of your time committed to the habits and routines that move you forward, while leaving room to take the trip, have the dinner, laugh with friends, and do the things that bring you joy. The goal of building your health, wealth, and discipline isn’t optimization for its own sake; it’s creating the freedom to experience more of what makes life meaningful. Zero years of experience required. At WHOOP, we’ve learned that experience isn’t always a prerequisite for exceptional outcomes. AI is changing what’s possible at the start of a career. The tools are more powerful, the learning curve is faster, and the opportunity to contribute is greater than ever. We want to find the people ready to take advantage of it. So while others pull back from hiring young talent, we’re leaning in. Last week, we introduced WHOOP Pace Setters, a new program for ambitious graduating students ready to take on meaningful responsibility from the very start of their careers. Experience is built over time. Talent, drive, and curiosity are where it starts. 🎓 Graduating from a four-year accredited institution in Spring 2027 📍 Primarily based at WHOOP HQ in Boston 📅 Starting Summer 2027 ⏰ Applications close October 4 at 11:59 PM ET Class of 2027 can find open roles here: https://lnkd.in/gDRa3DJS

Now, you can create and log your own custom habits in your Journal. From having a stressful interview, to traveling for work, you can decide what to include. Just chat with WHOOP to create a new behavior, add it to your Journal, and start logging to see the impact of your habits. The more your Journal reflects the life you live, the more context you have to uncover meaningful patterns over time.
