Jago Macleod reposted thisJago Macleod reposted thisOSS maintainers are overloaded at the moment with vulnerability reports. I got together with some other CNCF maintainers (Kubernetes, containerd), CNCF Security TAG, Google Project Zero bug finders, and Google's Vulnerability Reward Program folks to produce some advice specifically for OSS maintainers. It covers some advice on how to attack the problem at all stages of finding and fixing vulnerabilities. We also cover what we'd like to see from folks who are using AI to find and report vulns. Thanks to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) and OSS security brainstrust that contributed to this advice: Brandt Keller, Chris Aniszczyk, Evan Anderson, Ivan Fratric, Jordan Liggitt, Michael Lieberman, Monis Khan, Natalie Silvanovich, Rita Zhang, Sam Erb, Samuel Karp https://lnkd.in/gJv7_anJThe AI-driven shift in vulnerability discovery: What maintainers and bug finders need to knowThe AI-driven shift in vulnerability discovery: What maintainers and bug finders need to know

Jago Macleod shared thisThis was so much fun as always. Thank you Savannah Peterson for a great conversation!Jago Macleod shared thisGoogle’s collaboration with NVIDIA, Intel Corporation & Arm on AI-driven enhancements in Kubernetes 🚀 Join #theCUBE’s host Savannah Peterson at #KubeConNA 2025, as she gathers first-hand insights into some fun Kubernetes enhancements from Google Cloud’s Jago Macleod, Director Of Engineering, Kubernetes, and Gari Singh, Product Manager, along with Kate Holterhoff, Ph.D., Senior Industry Analyst at RedMonk. “The hardware has gotten fun again recently with ARM and all the CPUs that are doing interesting things. Now, we've been working a lot with Intel, NVIDIA and others on using some of the mechanisms in Kubernetes so that folks can squeeze that last bit of performance out of it. The DRA, Dynamic Resource Allocation, has now gone GA, and of course the AI workloads are the real motivating factor, but it inspired a lot of cool conversations with the SchedMD folks behind Slurm,” “I've been pleased with the collaboration with both the SchedMD folks on Slurm and the Anyscale folks on Ray. These communities are working well together. But the HPC world has 20 years of experience doing these very low-level interactions with the CPU, and they think it's madness that we just let the Linux scheduler figure out where to put a workload on a node with 300 cores. We've been improving the performance of all of those things on top of Kubernetes, and it's awesome to see,” he adds. 💡 Get more insights! https://lnkd.in/dzy4Ffdc #GKE #Kubernetes #Inference #CloudNative

Jago Macleod reposted thisJago Macleod reposted thisFor the last five years, Google's Open Source Programs Office has published a report of the company's work and contributions to open source. Out today is the 2023 report. Last year, "roughly 10% of Alphabet's full-time workforce actively contributed to open source projects. This percentage has remained roughly consistent over the last five years." This is a stat I'm really proud of. This isn't just engineering, this is 10% of everyone. It's a number that wouldn't happen without the incredible work of my OSS colleagues and the Googlers who use open source to do their jobs more effectively, to be creative and explore, and to support our technology commons. https://lnkd.in/ge3zwC_y

But we want to make it economically viable for everyone by stripping out the massive infrastructure inefficiencies that keep accelerators idle. That's why we're so proud of our latest work on time-slicing for RL. We've proven that you can run multiple complex workloads on a fraction of the hardware without any compromise on model performance. We just published a deep dive on how we multiplexed three different RL and SFT workloads onto just two shared GPUs—resulting in up to 67% reduction in physical hardware footprint and ~40% savings in GPU-hours. Check out the full benchmark and technical breakdown on our blog:👉 https://lnkd.in/gBnrnUtZ Stay tuned, we will be publishing a number of interesting recipes that you can use - Interleaving batch inference with RL job - Interleaving a co-located RL job with itself - Reliability and scale DM me if you want to discuss more or join llm-d if you want to collaborate. Once you upgrade the API server binary, storage schemas change immediately, making downgrades impossible without restoring from etcd backups. The GKE team recently announced the General Availability of two-step control plane upgrades and minor version rollbacks across all release channels. By decoupling the binary rollout from API finalization, GKE runs the new binary in an emulated compatibility mode. This creates a safe observation period where health signals are monitored via canary analysis. If any regression occurs, you can roll back to the previous minor version with zero data loss. Auto-upgrades handle this staging automatically, while platform teams managing manual workflows get full support in gcloud and Terraform. Twenty years ago, I joined Caspio to help build infrastructure customers could put production data on. That standard didn't change because of AI. Today Caspi is live. 🎉 Describe the application you need in plain language, and it builds a real, production-ready app, not a mockup, the actual thing your team runs. My team's job during this build wasn't the interface. It was making sure whatever Caspi generates lands on the same infrastructure, the same permissions model, the same security review as anything a developer builds by hand. If you're evaluating AI app builders anywhere, ask the vendor one question: does AI-generated output go through the same infrastructure review as everything else, or a separate track? The answer tells you how much they've actually thought about this. Caspi is live for eligible accounts. Full release in the comments. 🎉

When most people hear "solid-state," they think storage. But in Santa Clara, xMEMS Labs just gave that term new resonance, literally. The company just raised $21M in Series D funding led by Boardman Bay Capital Management, with Cloudview Capital, CDIB-TEN Capital, Harbinger Ventures, Susquehanna Asia Venture Capital, and other strategic investors tuning in. This isn't another round of capital, it's an #amplifier for a company turning silicon into a new language of #sound and #cooling for the AI era. Founded in 2018 by Joseph Jiang and Jemm Liang, xMEMS spun out of piezoelectric R&D at TSMC and turned what was once wafer-level theory into commercial hardware. Joseph Jiang, a veteran of Knowles, Fortemedia, and InvenSense, leads with precision and swagger, while Jemm Liang, who built Ultrachip from the ground up, drives the engineering with surgical focus. Co-Founder & CLO Wei-Fu Hsu, the former MediaTek exec and IP expert, ensures xMEMS' innovation is as protected as it is disruptive. Their play? A monolithic MEMS platform that transforms voltage into vibration, silicon into sound. Unlike legacy coil speakers and fans, xMEMS tech doesn't move parts, it moves markets. Over 500K MEMS speakers shipped in 1H'24, backed by >250 global patents. The Cypress & Sycamore lines redefine what "small" can do: 1mm-thin, full-range, and capable of sub-bass response once thought impossible in earbuds. Their XMC-2400 µCooling chip, 1mm-thin, fan-on-a-chip, inaudible, moves 39cc/sec of air at just 30mW. That's not cooling, that's choreography at a molecular level. Dr. Chester Hwang, named CTO on Oct 15, 2025, joins to push that curve further. Alongside veterans Mike Housholder (VP Marketing & Biz Dev), Jim Wargnier (VP N.A. & EU Sales), James Lee (VP & Korea GM), Steven P. Bentley (VP Sales), and Martin Lim (VP MEMS Tech), xMEMS is scaling at semiconductor speed. They're already in BleeqUp's AI sports glasses and teamed with Dongguan Rayking Electronics for TWS modules. When OEMs talk "next-gen," they're talking xMEMS-level integration. For investors like Boardman Bay's Will Graves, this isn't just sound engineering, it's signal intelligence. With AI pushing devices thinner, faster, and hotter, xMEMS' piezoMEMS platform sits at the intersection of #acoustics and #thermals, where every millimeter matters. Backing them is a bet that the next wave of #sensorytech won't just compute, it'll feel alive. So what's next? Scaling production, expanding capacity, and embedding xMEMS' silicon pulse into everything from earbuds to AI #datacenters. In a world chasing speed, silence, and fidelity, xMEMS isn't following the beat, they're building the frequency the future will hum to. #Startups #StartupFunding #VentureCapital #SeriesD #AI #Sound #SoundEngineering #Semiconductors #Data #DataDriven #Technology #Innovation #TechEcosystem #StartupEcosystem #Hiring #TechHiring If software engineering peace of mind is what you crave, Vention is your zen.

AI Infrastructure Isn’t Just About Compute Energy Is Now a First Class Constraint Recent news around Alphabet expanding its investment in clean energy development highlights a reality many infrastructure teams are already living with: AI scale is no longer limited by models or clusters alone it’s increasingly shaped by power availability and grid readiness From a cloud infrastructure engineering perspective, this shift is very tangible. As AI workloads grow denser and more persistent, questions around where compute lives, how it’s powered, and how reliably that power can be delivered become core architectural concerns not downstream optimizations What’s interesting isn’t just capacity expansion, but the tighter coupling we’re seeing between data centers, energy generation, and storage. Building infrastructure at this scale requires long-term coordination across engineering, energy markets, utilities, and sustainability teams well beyond traditional data center planning This feels like an inflection point for cloud infrastructure design in the AI era. Curious how others are thinking about this Do you see energy availability becoming a primary design constraint for large scale AI platforms over the next few years or still secondary to compute and networking?
