When immersive tech moves from just cool to profitable. Numbers don't lie – and this week they're telling a remarkable story about the maturation of our industry. MicroCloud Hologram just reported a stunning financial turnaround: $33 million profit in the first half of 2025, compared to a $17 million loss in the same period last year. That's a $50 million swing that should grab every executive's attention. But here's what's even more telling: Universal Destinations & Experiences just opened Horror Unleashed at AREA15 in Las Vegas – their first year-round, fully immersive horror experience outside of seasonal events (sadly, I missed the opportunity to visit pre-opening with my TEA colleagues, just last week). This isn't a test or pilot program. This is Universal betting big on permanent immersive entertainment as a revenue driver, expanding the model to Chicago next year. The shift is undeniable. We've moved from "proof of concept" to "proof of profit." As someone working in holographic technology at Proto Hologram and serving on the Themed Entertainment Association Western Division Board, I'm seeing this transition accelerate across both entertainment and enterprise applications. The themed entertainment industry has always been the proving ground for immersive technologies – and now we're watching those innovations scale into sustainable business models. What excites me most? This financial validation opens doors for more ambitious projects. When investors see $50 million turnarounds and major entertainment companies committing to permanent installations, suddenly budgets for next-generation experiences become realistic conversations, not wishful thinking. Universal Music just announced a partnership with NVIDIA to tackle what they’re calling “AI slop.” Basically, they’re saying: AI shouldn’t churn out soulless, copy-paste music it should help artists create better work. On the surface, that sounds like a win for creativity. But I can’t help wondering… When major labels and tech giants start building the tools, who really benefits first the artist or the system? We’ve all heard AI music that feels empty. No story. No risk. No soul. So yes, something needs to change. But does fixing that come from bigger corporations, or from giving artists more control and transparency over how these tools are used? I’m genuinely curious where this goes. Is this the moment AI finally supports real creativity? Or just another layer of control dressed up as innovation? Would love to hear different perspectives on this Especially from artists, producers, and technologists.
