Persistent volumes
So, a persistent volume is a separate API resource. That means it's a separate Kubernetes resource that represents storage in a specific environment. Persistent volumes allow you to do decoupling of storage, so the volume lives independently in your cloud, not dependent of the applications that are using it. Then we have the PersistentVolumeClaim, which is an API object that dynamically discovers available persistent volumes, without asking for a specific solution. So in a PVC, you are just going to specify the amount of storage that you need, and that's it. And the PVC is trying to bind to persistent volumes that are available. To access persistent volumes, pods use the PersistentVolumeClaim, or PVC volume type. And using persistent volumes allows pods to dynamically connect to storage that is available at a specific site, without asking for any specific storage type. And that's actually kind of cool.
