Gemeinsam mit dem deutschen KI-Startup VisioLab haben wir in den vergangenen Wochen bei ingsesamt sechs Veranstaltungen in der Uber Arena und der Uber Eats Music Hall in Berlin ein KI-basiertes Self-Checkout-System pilotiert. Das Ergebnis: ✔️ Bis zu 60 % Effizienzsteigerung ✔️ Kürzere Wartezeiten ✔️ Schnellere Bezahlprozesse ✔️ Mehr Zeit für das eigentliche Event Für uns ist Innovation kein ‘Trend Hunting’. We did another round of "Battle of the LLMs" (this time implementing a native macOS app that can count the people in the room in realtime) and Jan Vennemann demonstrated best practices of using LLM observability and evaluation tools to prevent hallucinations and improve production-grade stability of AI systems. A brand new team of leaders, most experiencing the grind of a football season for the first time with more curveballs and challenges than imaginable! Battling all that comes with renovation projects- new styles of service and offerings- frictionless tech driving 2.5 more transactions than ever before. Generally trying to figure out what is this plane and how do we land it! Game one brought record heat- the hottest game in the history of SC with 129 degree heat. Game 2 brought Old Testament rain at halftime. Each time we watched all of our fans leave the stadium and never some never felt like we “won”. Add in 2 major catering events each week and a concert the night before game 2 & 3- this team was feeling it! All I could do was cheerlead that there is this addictive and overwhelming feeling of pride when you conquer the crazy- keep pushing and you’ll get to experience accomplishment that most outside of our scale of this industry will never truly will! To a man/woman- they never got defeated as the natural growing pains took form. They got in the lab. They anchored down and demanded more of each other than ever before. They didn’t settle. They planned & pivoted where needed. Tested and retested. They developed a process that we HOPED would meet the mark for our first SEC sell out game in our brand new world. The hours, the effort, the communication & the grind all paid off in such an amazing way! Sprinkle in a 2 hour weather delay and a sell out crowd into the mix, and you walk away with a new all time revenue $ record for the University of South Carolina Aramark S&E team- and it’s not even close! And most importantly, never even came close to running low on product or positivity! I could not be more proud of my team- and I am so happy they got to experience the thrill of this type of performance! Now we rest, regroup & do it 4 more times!! USC Team-Best of the best! Tip of the spear!

The Operating System of German Science: Decoding the DFG's "Black Box" We often treat funding bodies like black boxes. We submit a proposal, wait 8 months, and receive an outcome (funding or rejection). But the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) is not a bank; it is a self-governing republic of science with a complex, democratic architecture. I've designed this technical blueprint to visualise exactly how the machine functions in 2025, with a budget of €3.9 billion and over 31,000 active projects. Here is the hidden architecture behind your grant decision: 1. The Hardware (Governance Stack). The DFG relies on a strict separation of powers. - The Senate (The Brain): 39 scientists decide what to fund (strategy and disciplines). - The Joint Committee (The Wallet): The apex where scientists meet federal/state ministers. While scientists hold the voting majority, the politicians control the budget. 2. The Engine (The Review Boards). This is the democratic core. Every four years, 150,000 researchers elect the members of the Fachkollegien. They act as a "comparative court" to calibrate reviews, ensuring a strict reviewer in one city doesn't disadvantage you compared to a lenient one in another. The infographic visualises the deep drill-down of subject codes (e.g., 4.43-04 for AI), where choosing the wrong code can orphan a proposal. 3. The Hidden Flow (Decision Pipeline). The visualisation traces the "Red Stream" (70% rejection) vs. the "Green Stream" (30% funded). The most critical step is often the "Black Box" of reviewer selection by the Program Directors (Fachreferenten), who strictly police conflicts of interest before the peer review phase begins. 4. The 2025 System Patches. The system has been updated with modern "firmware": - AI Policy: It is a "Dual-Use" rule. Applicants have a Green Light to use GenAI (if disclosed), but Reviewers have a strict Red Light. Uploading a proposal to an AI model is now a data breach. - Sustainability: Since March 2024, the "Sustainability Reflection" has been a mandatory filter for all proposals. - Overhead: The "Hidden Fee" (Program Allowance) paid to universities is currently 22% but is set to rise to 25% in 2027. Whether you are applying for an Individual Grant or a €539M Cluster of Excellence, understanding this schematic is half the battle.
