Roberta Melcore (Alignment Coaching) shared thisI spent years in corporate believing my value came from having something intelligent to add. A few months into my coaching career, I’m discovering how much value can come from resisting that urge, and #listening instead. Three lessons, in particular, have helped me create deeper, more meaningful conversations: 💡 Take yourself out of the picture! The most meaningful exchanges happen when we loosen the grip on our ego and the need to appear impressive, and we become curious about the person in front of us. 💡 Don't rush to fill the silence. When I started coaching, allowing a pause between what someone had said and my next response felt seriously uncomfortable. The temptation to immediately offer something helpful sometimes interrupted the space the client needed to reach their own insight. As I became more comfortable with silence, some of the most powerful breakthroughs began to happen. 💡 Listen for what really matters. Deep listening means paying attention not only to what someone is saying, but also to the priorities behind their words. Despite how polished it looked, it didn't feel like me. So here I am, finally making the announcement myself 🫡 Exactly two months ago, I decided not only to leave Amazon Web Services (AWS) - a company I loved for everything it taught me, both professionally and personally - but also to let go of an identity that had been my safety net for quite a while. Whilst saying goodbye to the most incredible Marketing team I have ever worked with (not by chance led by the most inspiring, brilliant, and authentic leader I know, Samara Donald), I had also started laying the foundations for North Within - Alignment Coaching 🌱 North Within creates transformational experiences - including outdoor, experiential, and somatic approaches - for professionals, leaders, and teams who want to *lead with intention* , *work with purpose* , and *grow authentically* . Roberta Melcore (Alignment Coaching) reacted on thisRoberta Melcore (Alignment Coaching) reacted on thisDon’t outsource the thinking. 🧠 That was one of my biggest takeaways from a great conversation today at Canva's Beyond the Pilot: A Roadmap for Scaling AI in Content & Marketing session in Sydney. AI is creating extraordinary opportunities for marketers to move faster, understand customers more deeply and rethink how work gets done. But as content and information become increasingly abundant, I believe the scarce assets will be judgment, creativity, taste and trust. A few other thoughts I shared today: 🔄 Treat AI at scale as a transformation, not just a technology project. People, process, systems and technology all need to move together. 📈 Measure beyond productivity. Efficiency creates capacity; effectiveness and business impact create value. 🛡️ Governance and speed aren’t opposites. The right guardrails give teams the confidence to innovate and move faster. 🎯 And above all, stay customer obsessed. AI can accelerate the work, but humans still need to decide what good looks like. Thanks to Meghan Gendelman, Global B2B CMO at Canva, for moderating the conversation, and to my fellow panellist Christian Rocha, Head of Marketing at Belle Property, for a terrific discussion. At our latest Link UP London Flash Consulting event, we brought senior colleagues from Amazon’s Strategy and Operations teams together with small London-based charities for two hours of fresh ideas and problem-solving around real challenges. For the organisations involved, it was a chance to step back, ask questions and gain a fresh perspective from people with different experiences and expertise. But the learning goes both ways. Our corporate volunteers regularly tell us that Skilled Volunteering helps them develop skills they can take back into their day-to-day roles, while also helping them feel more connected to their colleagues and workplace. It’s much more than a feel-good experience.💙 And that’s something we’ve heard directly from volunteers at Amazon UK: 💬 "I am pleased to have this opportunity where I could share my expertise and help solve some of their problems. Everyone is waiting for models to develop judgment. Why tho? Execution is the model's half of the trade. Judgment is your half. When you hand AI a task, it reproduces exactly what you demonstrated. Including the parts you didn't mean to demonstrate. Show it 3 examples where you cut a corner and it will cut that corner with perfect fidelity, forever, at scale. It's not going to infer what you wanted. The fix is transferring intent AND instructions. 6 micro-prompts to help: Add whichever fits before your next task. "The goal is [X]. If my instructions ever conflict with the goal, follow the goal and tell me." "Before you start, describe what a finished version looks like. Wait for my ok." "My example shows the format, not the quality bar. Exceed the example." "If anything is ambiguous, ask me one question before doing anything." "If you spot a step I forgot to mention, do it and flag it." "When you finish, list what a thoughtful person would have done that I didn't ask for." No more treating AI like a vending machine. Treat it like a brilliant first-day hire with zero context.
