Check Point's next chapter is off to a promising start. They delivered a solid Q3'25 earnings report last week, highlighted by 20% YoY growth in calculated billings. (Note: Calculated billings are the total value of invoices in a period, not revenue – so, more of a long-term growth metric). One analyst said they haven't seen Check Point deliver this level of billings growth in over a decade. Several elements of their strategy are starting to take shape. Here's a summary of the main points: → Emerging technology products exceeded 40% ARR growth. Check Point's recent M&A activity is starting to pay off. Harmony SASE (mostly Perimeter 81 [$490M], partly Atmosec), Harmony Email (Avanan [$300M]), and External Risk Management (Cyberint [$200M], Veriti [~$100M+], multiple others) cumulatively grew ARR by ~40% YoY. SASE is a clear priority. Nadav Zafrir called it a "must-win product." Their email security market share is "relatively small," but they're optimistic about acceleration (which requires replacing incumbents like Proofpoint and Mimecast). External Risk Management (CTEM) has reached 100+ customer deployments with 70+ vendor integrations for automated remediation. This was cited multiple times as an example of their open platform strategy. The punch line here is Check Point's diversification beyond their core firewall business. If they're going to grow at scale, their emerging technology products (and broader workplace suite) all have to be (in their words) "podium players." → They're going to keep being active in M&A. Nadav Zafrir left no doubt about Check Point's intentions for M&A: > "We're looking at acquisition targets as we speak. I literally just had a meeting before this call with our M&A team. They're looking at multiple companies as we speak. Nothing is imminent right now, but there will be more." One specific area of focus was more advanced stages of AI security beyond what they already covered with their acquisition of Lakera: > "The biggest investment that you are going to see from us is investing in the future, and that's building the full stack AI security platform." They're open to a combination of organic and inorganic product development to win the "race for relevance." → A strategic bet on their open platform philosophy. Check Point's strategy is built around a contrarian point of view: an open platform philosophy is better for customers than monolithic platforms. Analyst John DiFucci captured the tension perfectly: "It almost seems naive to think you can do it because...you have fierce competitors. And even though it's the right thing for the customer, no one's ever been able to do it." This strategy is very nuanced. My interpretation is (1) willingness to make their own products easy to integrate with, and (2) active in pursuing technology partnerships. Put differently: they're going to try their best to be open, but it's out of their control if competitors don't want to play ball.
