I lead technology organizations that help exceptional people do their best work. As CIO of the University of Chicago, I lead enterprise technology strategy for one of the world's leading research universities, with a focus on using technology, data and AI to advance research and education, improve institutional decision-making, strengthen trust, and make complex organizations easier to navigate.

My career has focused on turning technology organizations from service providers into strategic partners. That work has included enterprise transformation, cybersecurity and risk, cloud and infrastructure modernization, data and analytics, digital experience, and increasingly the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence.

I believe the best technology organizations are built around people rather than platforms. I care deeply about developing leaders, building high-performing teams, creating strong partnerships, communicating clearly, and giving talented people the environment and accountability they need to succeed.

At UChicago, my teams have launched institution-wide AI capabilities, modernized core platforms and infrastructure, strengthened cybersecurity and privacy, and supported the technology needs of a globally significant research and teaching enterprise.

Want to know the best way to plan an AI rollout in a school district? Bring everyone to the table. Today the Santa Clara Unified School District AI Advisory Committee did exactly that — teachers, vice principals, students, and classified staff all in the room together. The result? A much clearer picture of how to actually implement AI tools in a way that works for real people. Here's what we walked away with: - Start with the right people, not all the people at once - Match the tool to the level — elementary, middle, high school, and business ops each have different needs - Don't rush it. Pace matters more than speed - Most importantly — lead with WHY before you ever talk tools That last one? It changes everything. Thanks to the SCUSD AI Advisory Committee for the candid insights today. This is the work that makes the difference. 💡 #SCUSDproud #AIinEducation #EdTech #LaborManagement #SchoolLeadership Phanom "Amber" Wacht Stephanie Rothstein Aaron Lindley Kaashvi Mittal Mark Schiel

I raised this question on the forum early last year: Should higher education leadership now incorporate into their strategic planning an assessment of their readiness to facilitate partnerships, mergers, and acquisitions? Whether we welcome it or not, this is an increasingly prevalent trend within the sector. #mergers #universities #highereducation #highereducationleadership https://lnkd.in/er4TgfaU
