Adwait Joshi (AJ) shared thisAfter 17+ amazing years at Microsoft, I’m taking a career break to focus on family and personal goals. This isn’t a retirement note, not taking voluntary retirement — just pausing for the next chapter with a full heart and a lot of gratitude. 😊 Some chapters sneak up on you. Seventeen years ago, I joined Microsoft for the work, the learning, and the chance to be part of something bigger. What I did not know then was that the greatest gift of this journey would be the people — the teams, customers, leaders, partners, launches, late nights, big bets, and friendships that became such a meaningful part of my life. I have had the privilege to work on market-making solutions — from Office mobile apps to endpoint and cloud security, cloud-native SIEM, and AI-powered security — and to play a part in helping few businesses grow from early ideas into $1B+ businesses. None of that happens alone; it was always the result of ambitious teams, bold bets, customer trust, and a lot of learning along the way. There are far too many people to thank here — mentors, teammates, leaders, partners, customers, and friends who made this journey special. IYKYK. I’m deeply grateful for the trust, laughter, support, and memories along the way. For now, I am simply looking forward to creating more space for family, personal goals, and the long list of people I cannot wait to call. I am especially looking forward to the long-overdue coffee catch-ups that somehow always got pushed to “someday.” Someday is finally getting on the calendar. Thank you to everyone who has been part of my Microsoft story. I leave with immense appreciation, and I will be cheering you for the next chapters.

Adwait Joshi (AJ) shared thisReally enjoyed chatting with Maryann MBA, PSM I about how AI is changing security operations. Security teams are dealing with more alerts, more complexity, and faster-moving threats than ever. What’s exciting to me is how agentic security can help shift SOC teams from constantly reacting to getting more proactive — spotting risk earlier, speeding up investigations, and coordinating action across tools and teams. Thanks Maryann for the great conversation and for spotlighting where security operations are headed. If you’re following cyber trends and emerging threats, some good information to track here: https://lnkd.in/gMDGycNR #AgenticAI #Cybersecurity #SecurityOperations #ThreatIntelligence #MicrosoftSecurityAdwait Joshi (AJ) shared thisAI is reshaping cybersecurity at an unprecedented pace. The challenge? Defenders aren’t the only ones moving fast. Bad actors are leveraging AI too. So how do security practitioners and organizations stay ahead? I recently sat down with Adwait Joshi (AJ) for a thoughtful conversation on how AI is changing the cybersecurity landscape, practical steps organizations can take to adopt and scale AI responsibly, and the skills security professionals should be building now to prepare for what’s next. Thanks, Adwait Joshi (AJ) , for sharing your insights and expertise. I’d love to hear your biggest takeaway from the video in the comment section. #Cybersecurity #AI #SecurityAI #MicrosoftSecurity #CyberDefense #AISecurity

Adwait Joshi (AJ) shared thisA common philosophy suggests that managers should aim to make themselves redundant by empowering others. I experienced this first-hand over the summer and truly enjoyed it. After taking a couple of months off, I wanted to express my appreciation for my team. While I'm grateful for the support from our leadership, I'm especially inspired by every individual on our team who took initiative and helped launch our latest Gen AI innovations. What an exciting week to return! The fall edition of Microsoft Secure today saw the release of several major new innovations, including advancements to Security Copilot—such as the ability to build your own AI agents without any coding! Looking forward to the feedback on these new capabilities and seeing many of our customers at Microsoft Ignite Conference 2025 in November. Adwait Joshi (AJ) reacted on thisAdwait Joshi (AJ) reacted on thisToday marks the end of my time at Microsoft having worked for Microsoft longer than I have not as I enter my 25th year. I have accepted the voluntary "retirement" package offered to us "old timers" at MSFT. In 1987 my parents, both educators, purchased a VIC-20 from Radio Shack, setting me up with a lifelong love of coding and building “I want to program computers when I grow up”. I joined Microsoft in 2002 - helping build SQL Server Engine - I got my own office, a fancy flat screen CRT along with a dev box running Windows XP, now many years later - I'm still hacking away, still building with many amazing people. The journey has been amazing; it started out as "The internet will be big one day" moved "To the Cloud!" then "The future is Mixed Reality" and now, perhaps we are in the most exciting moment in computing with language models and "Artificial Intelligence". We are far from done. While there are many products that I am proud to put my name on - it's the connections and people like you who are reading this that matter. Thank you. I'll be taking that sabbatical I banked over the summer, spending time with family and kids over the summer, then onto new adventures in the fall.

Adwait Joshi (AJ) reacted on thisAdwait Joshi (AJ) reacted on thisToday I am officially retiring after 19 years at Microsoft, having accepted the VRP offer, and the first thing that comes to mind is gratitude. For the opportunities, and for the many managers, leaders, and colleagues I was fortunate to learn from. A career is really a journey filled with the people who walk beside you, and I have been remarkably lucky in mine. Of everything I did at Microsoft, becoming the lead of our data security team was my greatest privilege. I was hesitant to take the role at first, and I remember using a Robert Frost quote to capture the decision: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. This decision changed the shape of my career. The role shaped the kind of person I am today, because it allowed me to help others grow. Mentoring and coaching people toward their own version of success is what I will take forward as one of my biggest impacts at Microsoft. None of it would have been possible without Donna, my partner of 25 years, whose steadiness, encouragement, and love were the foundation under all of it. And my kids, Asha Kalyan and Dillon Kalyan, who now remind me daily why any of it mattered. Whatever I contributed here was made possible by the three of them. Several people have asked me, “Are you ready?” Climber Melissa Arnot spoke to our team about her first climb of Everest without supplemental oxygen. She had trained, yet still wasn’t convinced she was ready, so she asked her Sherpa partner, "Do you think I am ready?" He told her: “Melissa, you don’t get to know if you are ready. You just go, and then you will know.” This resonates deeply with me, because it applies to nearly every journey in life that matters both personally and professionally. The person who arrives at the summit is different from the person who started. The starting person cannot know what the arriving person will be capable of, because the arriving person does not yet exist. They are created by the climb itself. The hardest climb I never trained for was losing Donna to cancer in January of 2025. In her last days she told me something I think about often: “Raman, don’t let the death of me be the death of you.” Since that day I decided to keep living, fully and with intention. For her, for my kids, and most of all for myself. Most of what is written about grief focuses on what is lost. However, I have realized that I gained something that cannot be taken from me: the knowledge of what full participation in life, with love, looks like. That love is now my foundation and the fuel for what comes next. So today I will do what I have done every day for years. I will open the door and start walking forward. I do not know where the path leads, but I am grateful, optimistic, and free to be present however I choose to be. To everyone who has been part of this chapter, thank you. I’ll carry the memories I made with you with me always. Till we meet again, Raman

Adwait Joshi (AJ) liked thisAdwait Joshi (AJ) liked thisAfter nearly three decades in the software industry, including 27 years at Microsoft, I've decided it's time to retire and start a new chapter. Microsoft has been more than a job since I arrived in 1999—it has been a second home. I'm grateful for the opportunities, the challenges, and most of all the people. I've had the privilege of working with talented colleagues who taught me, challenged me, occasionally rescued me, and ultimately made me better. Special thanks to the many managers who supported me over the years, particularly Jerry Koh and Hong Gao, who somehow managed to put up with me for about six years each. The timing worked out nicely: Microsoft's Voluntary Retirement Program (VRP) happened to align with plans I was already making. It felt like the universe, HR, and a few Excel spreadsheets all agreed on something for once. As for what's next, I don't have a grand plan. For now, I'm looking forward to spending more time with family, riding my bike, learning new things, and discovering what weekdays look like without meetings. The next chapter remains unwritten. For the first time in a long time, I'm happy not knowing exactly what comes next. Thank you, Microsoft. It's been quite a ride.

This decision comes from a place of gratitude, joy, fullness and optimism for the future. I am so proud of the world-class organization we have built. ♥️ It’s been an epic journey - six years ago, we formed our Security customer solution area and the growth and impact of Microsoft Security over these past years has been incredible -as we built the #1 security business in the world while keeping our mission of building a safer world for all at the heart of it. Being a part of that journey has been one of the great honors of my life. Still, the most glorious achievement in my mind will always be our people and our culture. I am so very proud of our team and how they have led with purpose, empathy, optimism and fierce determination to deliver on our critical mission of security for all. Thank YOU to our amazing team. ♥️ In addition to my amazing team and colleagues, I want to give special thanks to our wonderful customers, partners, and security community, who have been a constant source of inspiration for me and who have brought meaning to my work every single day. I have loved meeting and getting to know each and every one of you - – thank you for your trust and commitment! Some special callouts – Thank You to Satya Nadella and Takeshi Numoto for the opportunity of a lifetime; to Brad Smith and Charlie Bell for their deep sponsorship and to Judson Althoff, Jay Parikh, Kathleen Hogan, Rajesh Jha, Amy Hood and Amy Coleman for their incredible support across the years! And a massive thank you to my leadership team who has been in this journey through it all. ♥️ I am excited about what the future holds for everyone – as a forever optimist, I have every confidence that it will be a remarkable one. I had the privilege of working on a mission I genuinely believed in — helping organizations defend themselves against some of the most sophisticated threats in the world. The work was meaningful, the technology was genuinely impressive, and the people I worked alongside were some of the sharpest and most passionate I’ve ever met. I’m proud of what we, the PMM team, built together — from multiple Gartner Magic Quadrant recognitions ( 2x Leaders!) to some of the biggest go-to-market moments of the year. A special thank you to Chris Kozup for the opportunity to be part of the marketing organization and for his leadership during a pivotal chapter for Darktrace. I leave with deep respect for the Darktrace brand and everything the team continues to do. To everyone I worked with at Darktrace, a heartfelt THANK YOU. You made this journey worthwhile. Onward. 🚀
