Otto Chan reposted thisOtto Chan reposted thisEvery fall I get the same message from students: "When do Google internships open?" The answer is now. 😀 Google's Summer 2027 internship postings are live for roles in engineering and AI/ML research, business, program management, design, and more. Two pieces of advice from someone who has watched a lot of these cycles: ➡️ Don't wait. Most applications are due by early October. That's about two weeks. Your résumé doesn't need to be perfect. It needs to be submitted. ➡️ Apply for the work you want to do, not the title you think sounds impressive. The best interns I've met chose problems they cared about. You'll work on real projects that ship to billions of people, and you'll learn more in twelve weeks than you'd expect. 😍 Technical Program Manager Intern, BS/MS, Summer 2027 https://lnkd.in/dBqK_ssG Associate Product Manager Intern, Summer 2027 https://lnkd.in/d4MMwxGY Business Undergraduate Intern, Summer 2027 https://lnkd.in/dfjSBQd5 Software Engineering Intern, BS, Summer 2027 https://lnkd.in/dcHpnDEJ Hardware Engineering Intern, BS/MS, Summer 2027 https://lnkd.in/dTNJSP5n Software Engineering BS/MS Intern, 2027 https://lnkd.in/dc3P5v8K User Experience Engineer Intern, BS/MS, Summer 2027 https://lnkd.in/dgTbuxn4 Customer and Partner Solutions Engineering Intern, BS/MS, Summer 2027 https://lnkd.in/d8Ay6peg Security Engineering Intern, BS/MS, Summer 2027 https://lnkd.in/dNh6Zs8u LinkedIn won't let me squeeze all the roles in, so if you're a student, grab the full list here: https://lnkd.in/d-6tHx6X If you know a student, please send this to them. Otto Chan shared thisToday marks 25 years since September 11, 2001—a day etched forever in our collective memory. A quarter-century later, let us pause to honor the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost, the brave first responders who ran toward danger without hesitation, and the countless families whose lives were changed in an instant. While the sorrow of that day will remain with me forever as a New Yorker, what also stays with me is what happened in the days that followed. Across communities nationwide, differences faded. Strangers became neighbors, standing shoulder-to-shoulder to donate blood, offer aid, and support one another. In one of our darkest moments, America responded with compassion, strength, and remarkable unity that made me so proud to be an American. We need to find our way back to that as a nation. May we never forget. 🇺🇸

Otto Chan reposted thisOtto Chan reposted thisA good friend sent me this chart. Results are in. Incredible times for Google Cloud in this "AI Reset" of the Hyperscaler market. We all entered this period with global scale 3 years ago, but competition was different. Today customers are making decisions AI first. While we have lead the Hyperscaler players in total growth % for over 2 years, the growth % numbers were closer. The gap is widening with customers choosing our "category of one" AI strategy for an enterprise partner. Exciting to see where this goes. Super proud of our GCP team, thankful for our leaders for continuing to invest in a winning hand, and of course grateful for our unbelievable customers and partners. Off we go! 🚀 🚀 🚀 Side Note - Total Cloud is the only true, public number all three produce, it includes AI impact for all three, and is closest to an apples to apples. (Ex - "GCP Core hosting" is far higher growth than our 82% this quarter per our public statements but we do not break that out, neither does AWS) #ai, Google, #genai, #technology, #hyperscaler, #data, #security

Otto Chan shared thisHappy 250th Birthday, America! 🇺🇸🎉 Two and a half centuries of resilience, innovation, and the relentless pursuit of a better tomorrow. In the professional world, we know that the most enduring achievements are never built in isolation. They require a shared "why"—a collective vision, a commitment to collaboration, and the courage to find common ground. The true strength of any great endeavor always lies in its people coming together to play the long game. As we celebrate today—whether you are watching the fireworks here in New York or enjoying the holiday with loved ones across the country—let’s double down on the values that unite us. Let’s champion the kind of optimistic, forward-thinking leadership that elevates our teams, bridges our divides, and strengthens our communities. The next chapter is ours to build, together. Wishing everyone a safe, joyful, and inspiring 4th of July! #America250 #FourthOfJuly #Leadership #SharedPurpose #Unity #BetterTogether #FutureForward

Otto Chan reposted thisOtto Chan reposted thisThe pace of technological change since last year’s Cloud Next has never been faster. Our first-party models now process more than 16 billion tokens per minute via direct API use, up from 10 billion last quarter. To support this growth, in 2026, just over half of our overall machine learning compute investment is expected to go towards the Cloud business to benefit our customers and partners. This week at Cloud Next we’re sharing an extraordinary range of new partnerships and innovations, including our new Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, the new mission control to build, scale, govern, and optimize agents. We also unveiled our eighth-generation TPUs, including TPU 8t for training and TPU 8i for inference, to provide the massive throughput needed to run millions of agents (great to get my hands on these!) To be the best partner, we always want to be “customer zero” for our own technologies. This helps us imagine, test, build and scale the best Google technologies for our cloud customers, for today and tomorrow. Our database service Bigtable, which powers so many Google services, and our TPUs, which have been so important in training and powering our Gemini models, are great examples. We’ve been using AI to generate code internally at Google for a while. Today, 75% of all new code at Google is now AI-generated and approved by engineers, up from 50% last fall. And teams across the company — from marketing to security — are using AI to work more effectively. We’re firmly in our agentic Gemini era. Otto Chan reacted on thisOtto Chan reacted on thisAfter an unforgettable journey of 16+ years across two tenures, building, scaling, and operating some of the most complex infrastructure and networks in the world, the time has come for me to send my final FIN-ACK and initiate a graceful handoff at Google. Looking back at where we started and what we have accomplished together with the #GoogleGlobalInfrastructure team, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude. From laying the groundwork for a resilient global fabric, to pushing the envelope on modern consumable infrastructure, none of it would have been possible without the relentless curiosity, execution rigor, and unwavering commitment of the Google infrastructure teams to keeping the packets forwarding, the tokens serving, and the queries flowing. Beyond the technology, product, designs, and scale, what I will cherish most is the people. It has been an absolute privilege to work alongside such brilliant minds, solve impossible problems during late-night war rooms, celebrate our shared milestones, and always strive to build the infrastructure sustainably and the right way. There are countless colleagues, mentors and leaders to thank. I am deeply grateful for the generosity shown to me through every high and low by Urs Hölzle, Thomas Kurian, Amin Vahdat, and Ruth Porat—thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I’ll be joining the Blackstone | Google joint venture, Crux AI, as the Chief Technology & Product Officer. The pursuit to engineer and scale next-generation infrastructure continues, and I am thrilled to partner once again with Benjamin Treynor Sloss to tackle what comes next.

Otto Chan reacted on thisOtto Chan reacted on thisAs I prepare to step into retirement on September 30th, I find myself returning to a simple truth: there's no place like home. For the past 12 years, I've had the profound privilege of serving as RBC’s Regional President across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nunavut, and Western Ontario. It was here I began my career and here that I proudly book end it. Today, I want to share my heart with all of you who have made this journey unforgettable. To our clients: Thank you for trusting us with your financial futures and your dreams. There is a kindness, openness, and resilience in our clients across this region. Thank you for sharing your hopes, ambitions, diversity, challenges, and stories with us - and for bringing us on that journey with you. To our community charitable partners: Your passion for the work you do, your pioneering spirit, and the light you choose to shine on others have inspired me daily. I've witnessed firsthand what it means to build something meaningful in partnership across the charitable sector, business community, government, and education institutions. To the people and land who make up this region: Canada is made better because of the diversity, landscape, and unique contributions you each bring to the planet and how you choose to live our distinctly Canadian values while uniquely fueling and shaping our national and global economy. To my RBC colleagues: You are the heartbeat of everything we do. Your dedication, imagination, and compassion for clients and one another have been the true measure of our success and the foundation of our RBC culture. Thank you to the leaders, mentors, sponsors, and role models along the way who challenged me, advocated for me, and lifted me up. I am grateful to call this region home. I will be cheering on MSNWO’s new Regional President, Courtney Hesse, from the sidelines. Which is exactly where you will also find me cheering on my Saskatchewan’s Roughriders, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and the Winnipeg Jets! As I look to the future, my heart stays rooted in these communities and with each of you. And that is why there truly is no place like home. #RBC #mycompany

Otto Chan liked thisOtto Chan liked thisAmerica still remains a global beacon of freedom and hope. Billions of people would move here if they could because of our opportunities. And if global investors could invest in only one country, it would be the United States. But we can't take that for granted. America's strength rests on three things: maintaining the world's preeminent military, remaining the world's preeminent economy, and reigniting the American Dream and the values that made this nation great. Those pillars are deeply connected. A strong economy supports a strong military. Strong alliances reinforce both. And neither can endure if too many people feel left behind. That's why this is a crucial moment for big ideas. A renewed commitment to American values and alliances, coupled with bold reforms by Europe, would be a geopolitical and economic home run that strengthens the Western world for generations to come. We must rededicate ourselves to the values and principles, including free enterprise, that made this nation great. Read more in my The Wall Street Journal op-ed. https://lnkd.in/e_RrhYA3

Otto Chan reacted on thisOtto Chan reacted on thisYesterday I celebrated 12 years at Mastercard. What many might not know is that Mastercard rejected me. So I did the only reasonable thing and I made them hire me anyway. The first time I applied, I made it all the way to the final round, and they flew me out to New York for the interview. Then the call came, and the answer was no, I didn’t get the job. I didn't have global experience. They were right, I didn't. So I went and got it. I took a job at another company doing exactly the work they said I was missing. Not a class or a certification, a new job somewhere else. About a year later, a role opened up at Mastercard, same level and same title, just a different part of the business. Three interviews later it was mine. Looking back, that was the most useful NO of my career. Someone took the time to tell me exactly what was missing, and I took them literally. I think about that whenever I see someone treat a no like the end of the story. Some nos are, but the good ones come with directions on what to do next. The recruiter who gave me that feedback also encouraged me to come back and apply again. That door led to years of amazing opportunities and the chance to work with some of the smartest people. Twelve years. Still choosing curious.

The announcement, which landed a day before OpenAI's annual developers conference, comes as the AI industry faces intensifying concerns surrounding the safety of advanced models. In an essay earlier this month, leadership at OpenAI's chief rival, Anthropic, urged AI companies to slow the pace of model development— a proposal that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed support for. "Of course we want to make sure our model development is safe no matter whether that's in the company, or when we ship it to users," Saachi Jain, head of safety systems at OpenAI, said in a statement. "But when we ship it to users, we have an extremely high bar in terms of safety and alignment."OpenAI abandons plan to release upcoming model as safety concerns escalateOpenAI abandons plan to release upcoming model as safety concerns escalate

Otto Chan liked thisToday marks a major milestone for Seligman Ventures Less than 8 months after launching with $500 million in deployable capital, Seligman Ventures, the venture arm of Seligman Investments, has doubled its deployable capital to $1 billion This is more than a milestone for our firm. It reflects our conviction that we are in the early stages of one of the most consequential and “biggest ever” technology infrastructure innovation cycles of our lifetime. When we launched Seligman Ventures in February, our thesis was straightforward: AI would require a “fundamental re-architecture” of the hardware and software infrastructure stack, creating enormous opportunities for technical founders to build companies solving some of the hardest bottlenecks across AI infrastructure, data centers and cybersecurity. What we have seen since launch has only strengthened our conviction. We initially expected to make four to six investments in our first year. We have exceeded our expectations and have now invested in 16 companies, with 10 board and board observer seats across the portfolio. Our investments span the infrastructure stack, from AI inferencing and semiconductor design software to optical networking, high-speed interconnects, ultra-low-power compute, cybersecurity and Physical AI. Companies like SambaNova, Lumilens, Eliyan Corporation, Upscale, Velaura AI, Cognichip, EPIC Microsystems and Exaforce are each tackling different pieces of the same fundamental challenge: How do we build the infrastructure required for a world where intelligence is pervasive and everywhere? What makes this cycle different is that the bottlenecks keep moving. Solve compute and you expose power constraints. Solve power and you encounter thermal limitations. Scale the systems and connectivity, networking and data movement become critical. As AI moves into the physical world, entirely new requirements emerge. This is creating an extraordinary opportunity for technical founders willing to solve difficult problems that may take years to fully appreciate. We built Seligman Ventures to partner with those founders early and support them over the long term, from the earliest stages through the public markets. The ability to combine venture investing with decades of technology research and public-market investing gives us a differentiated perspective as the technology landscape evolves. I am incredibly proud of what our team has accomplished in just eight months. $1 billion is a significant milestone. But for us, it is also our strong commitment to what comes next with our founders. Thank you Krystal Hu at Thomson Reuters for the exclusive story We are deeply grateful to the founders who have trusted us to partner with them on this journey. Otto Chan liked thisOtto Chan liked this❓How do we build and govern AI agents so that they empower people, drive European competitiveness, and remain safe and accountable by design? This week at The Foundry @ Google 🇮🇪, I had the pleasure of welcoming policymakers, industry representatives, think tanks and academics for an in-depth roundtable on the transformative potential of agentic AI. Leading Google's Foundational Infrastructure and Site Engineering teams, my daily focus is ensuring the systems powering these tools are fast, resilient, and secure at massive scale. In an agentic world - where AI moves from answering questions to planning, coordinating, and taking action - that underlying reliability is vital. We are already seeing practical enterprise deployments right here in Ireland, such as Ryanair using our Gemini Enterprise platform across 35,000 employees to optimize complex logistics and operations. My colleague Dr. Ellie Sakhaee shared Google’s vision and policy approach, including our TRUST Framework - grounded in transparency, reliability, unified protocols, robust security, and task augmentation. 💡We had an engaging, candid exchange on both the practical opportunities - from public sector transformation to cyber defense - and the guardrails needed for autonomous workflows. As Ellie highlighted: what is illegal to do without an agent remains illegal to do with an agent. Existing legal frameworks already offer strong foundations as we pace regulation and avoid unnecessary friction. 🙏 A sincere thank you to all our guests for bringing such thoughtful perspectives to the table, including Naoise Ó Cearúil TDNaoise Ó Cearúil TD, James Geoghegan TD, Malcolm Byrne, Joseph Neville TD, Darren O'Rourke TD, Prof. Deirdre Ahern, Erik O'Donovan, Martina Fitzgerald, Barry Colfer and Seán Keyes.James Geoghegan TD, Malcolm Byrne, Joseph Neville TD, Darren O'Rourke TD, Prof. Deirdre Ahern, Erik O'Donovan, Martina Fitzgerald, Barry Colfer and Seán Keyes. Looking forward to keeping the conversation going! Huge thanks also to Charlotte Radvanyi , Lorcan O' Flaherty , Anne Rooney and Andrew Hyland from the Google Ireland team for curating such a timely discussion.
