  • A Survey of Past, Present and Future of Software Defined Networking

International journal of Advance Research in Computer Science and Management Studies

Abstract: Software Defined Networking is the most recent advancement, extending the idea of programmable networks. SDN framework decouples the network service from underlying implementation providing a novel approach for application to configure, operate and communicate with the network. This paper presents a study of programmable networks with emphasis on the motives and challenges of SDN. Following it we give an overview of SDN architecture its current
    applications and future applications.

  • ZS Quest 2015

First Runner-Up in the ZS Quest Hackathon 2015 which involved creating a Smart Data Quality Management tool in the span of 24 hours from the inception of the idea to its final functional prototype. The tool intuitively is able to analyse the data given for a certain configuration and will help the user in identifying trend breaks and outliers which are essential in checking the quality of a data set. Our goal was to provide a software solution for load balancing client traffic across multiple replica servers.
We adopted a proactive approach in implementing weighted load balancing for the centralized controller.
Three algorithms - Partitioning, Transitioning and Load-Redistribution- formed plinth of the module.

The proactive approach led to cut-in of "initial setup time" for new connection requests and the minimization techniques incorporated in partitioning algorithm resulted in less number of wildcard rules thereby reducing matching time at datapaths.

Load redistribution algorithm ensured that the servers were sharing traffic according to their capacity and transitioning algorithm allowed for smooth shift of clients to new server.

The project was a POC one using Mininet with POX controller, OpenVswitch and adhered to OPenFlow protocol.
