Config 2026: all about limitless expression on the canvas.

"Code is material, just like images and vectors" is the sentence that quietly ends a 15-year debate. The divide was never technical. It was a tooling constraint. And nobody said it clearly until now.

Figma continues to push the boundary between design and development The shift toward a more expressive, code connected canvas feels like a natural evolution of how digital products are built today

The biggest takeaway for me is that AI isn’t the creativity, it’s the accelerator. Designers and researchers (human) still define what’s possible. These new capabilities around code layers, motion, and generative tools look like a strong step toward reducing gaps between ideas and execution.

As someone building design systems for startups, this is incredibly exciting. The ability to move seamlessly between design, motion, and code on one canvas has the potential to make collaboration much more efficient. Looking forward to seeing these tools in action Figma

As a developer, I always appreciate features that reduce the gap between design and implementation. Curious to see what's coming this year.
