Google Search Central’s Post

Today we released the August 2026 spam update to Google Search. This is a normal spam update, and it will roll out for all languages and locations. The rollout may take a few days to complete. More information about spam updates can be found at https://lnkd.in/gshkDEU3 We'll update our ranking release history page when the rollout is complete: https://lnkd.in/epYqNUQw

Why after 26 years does there need to be an update to get rid of spam instead of it just happening on its own with existing algorithms?

I noticed in Search Console that they seem to start rolling out updates around 3–5 days before announcing them.

Let's see how it goes. The last two updates have significantly reduced the organic visibility for many local businesses, and not only that.

Curious to hear what other SEOs think do you expect this update to mainly hit scaled/low-value content, or could it also affect sites that are following SEO best practices but happen to have some spam signals?

Great time to deploy a migration...

"Normal spam update" means the SEO team just got a fresh reason to refresh Search Console every 20 minutes.
