We recently brought our robotaxi to their Thursday Night Live event. The activation, designed entirely by our team, gave visitors a chance to see Zoox up close, a vehicle built from the ground up, where form and function were designed together from day one. When you build a robotaxi from the ground up, every design choice is yours to make. Every detail becomes a design decision. Including how it sounds. How does a robotaxi welcome riders? How does it communicate with others on the road? From the welcoming chime when the doors slide open to the ambient cue at the start of the journey. Every sound at Zoox has a purpose. Our safety and sound design teams partnered with the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute to explore how non-speech audio cues can signal a robotaxi’s intent to people around it.
