Everyone driving past knows exactly whose stadium it is. The cover-up became the ad. Last week, I posted about TD Bank cutting real windows into billboards to legally show its logo. TD had to engineer its way around the restriction. Levi's didn't lift a finger. A logo can be covered. A distinctive asset can't. Cover the name. For its "Own a piece of it" campaign, TD cut a single square from bright green billboards and placed it right in front of the real storefronts. The actual logos showed through the gap. No trademark used. No rule broken. The message landed anyway: own a piece of it, for as little as $1. This is what happens when a legal constraint becomes the brief instead of the obstacle.
