Live from virtually anywhere. Straight to the cloud. At IBC - International Broadcasting Convention, Amazon Leo joined AWS to show how high-speed, low-latency satellite connectivity can help broadcasters move live footage from the field to the cloud in near real time — enabling remote production, faster collaboration, and new ways to reach audiences. Across customer meetings and our executive roundtable on the future of connectivity, one theme came through clearly: the opportunity goes beyond coverage. It’s about fitting into the workflows broadcasters already trust, changing the economics of live production, and giving customers greater control over how their content moves.

  • Nadine started at an Amazon delivery station in 2018. Eight years later, she stood at Cape Canaveral at sunset, watching a rocket carry satellites she helped build into low Earth orbit. Jessica started at a fulfillment center in Colorado. Today she works in our space simulation lab, testing satellite components against vacuum, extreme heat, cold, and vibration. Once they're up there, everything has to be perfect. Both earned aerospace manufacturing certifications through Amazon's Career Choice program, a prepaid tuition benefit that covers the cost of education for eligible employees. Their six-month program at Lake Washington Institute of Technology was fully funded by Amazon. Both were hired onto the Leo team before or shortly after graduating. Earlier this year, they joined teams in Cape Canaveral to watch Leo Atlas 7 (LA-07) lift off aboard an Atlas V rocket. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to build satellites. The space industry's biggest gap is in skilled technical roles, and Career Choice is helping make those careers accessible. Read more: https://spr.ly/6048B17OvO

  • Leo Direct-to-Device (D2D) Update Following our agreement to acquire Globalstar, we've filed with the Federal Communications Commission to deploy the Leo D2D System—up to 5,105 new satellites that will bring voice, data, messaging, and emergency services directly to compatible mobile devices. The system will operate alongside our Gen 1 and Gen 2 broadband systems, as well as Globalstar’s HIBLEO and C-3 satellite constellations, forming a unified network to connect more customers in more places around the world. Deployment will begin in 2028, and we’re excited to work with Globalstar, Apple and partners to deliver on our long-term vision for the service. Learn more: https://spr.ly/6044BEaoiY

Amazon Leo recently deployed 29 more satellites on the Leo Atlas 8 (LA-08) mission, and our summer interns experienced it from Mission Control. On July 2, ULA's Atlas V rocket carried 29 Amazon Leo satellites to low Earth orbit. It was our 14th mission, bringing our total to nearly 400, the third-largest constellation in orbit. The interns in this video were part of it. From our operations center in Redmond, Washington, they witnessed the team take control of the satellites minutes after launch from Cape Canaveral, FL. Not a bad way to spend a summer. Leo's next launch with ULA will be on their new heavy-lift Vulcan rocket, with service to customers beginning later this year.

Connecting the communities that traditional infrastructure can't reach. That's what Amazon Leo is built for. Herotel has spent more than a decade doing exactly that across South Africa's farms, small towns, and rural communities. Together, we're bringing fast, reliable internet to the people who have waited the longest for it.

Millions of South Africans on farms, in small towns, and in rural communities want connectivity but still lack reliable internet. Distance and terrain make traditional infrastructure impractical. Today Herotel announced Evry, a new service powered by Amazon Leo Leo, that will bring fast, reliable internet to homes and small businesses across South Africa in 2027. Herotel has spent more than a decade building connectivity beyond South Africa's major metros, reaching 350,000+ customers across 550+ towns through local teams. Amazon Leo and Herotel share the same mission: empowering all South Africans through access to high-speed internet. Now they'll be able to reach the places that fiber and fixed wireless can't serve. We’re breaking down barriers and unlocking high speed connectivity for millions of people who don't yet have reliable access for work, education, or the services they depend on. This agreement builds on our more than two-decade presence in South Africa and our investments in the country’s digital infrastructure, warehousing and logistics networks, solar energy production, nature restoration, small business enablement, and job skilling. • Deployment confirmed. Atlas V has completed its final mission for Amazon Leo, and we've established contact with all 29 satellites in low Earth orbit, bringing us to 375+ spacecraft in orbit. Next up with United Launch Alliance (ULA): The first of 38 Leo missions on its new Vulcan rocket, which will carry 40+ satellites to orbit, and support a higher cadence of Leo missions from Space Launch Complex-41 as we prepare to roll out service to customers.
