Rod Evans shared this9/11 – 25 years on. Everyone has a 9/11 story. Mine isn’t a story of bravery or heroic but it still has a deep impact on me. I resigned from EMC the day before. My US VP John Hanlon said to me: “You’re not leaving I’m gonna fly over and see you tomorrow”. The day started and I was on the road listening to CDs in the car when one of my Sales team called me with an update and said “nothing moving this week with the chaos in NYC”. What chaos? I turned on the radio and listened to it all unfolding. Arrived at a customer – Abbey National in Milton Keynes. People were gathered around the TV and we all saw the 2nd plane hit the South tower live. OMG This sh*t was real! I was stunned and couldn’t believe what was happening. Drove to London checking in to my hotel and waited for John to arrive. At 6:45pm in the bar he walked in. Walked over to me and grabbed me in a tight bearhug. Super tight. John is Boston Irish so nothing unusual until he spoke: “Rod, you don’t understand. You saved my life. I was booked on United flight 175 to LA. I changed it yesterday to come to London. You can’t leave now!” It was an emotional night. We both drank too much. Didn’t sleep watching CNN all night as it unfolded. Needless to say I didn’t leave EMC. My thought and prayers to the families that lost so much on that tragic day.

Rod Evans shared thisOne to put in the diary: the TQCI Seminar hosted by Teratec on September 23rd in Paris. The agenda covers the ground that matters right now for anyone thinking seriously about where quantum computing is heading; spin qubits and the path to scalability, the engineering realities of integrating QPUs into HPC environments, and what Europe's quantum strategy actually looks like in practice. That last point is worth paying attention to. The European Commission's quantum ambitions are significant, and the gap between policy intent and production-ready infrastructure is where the interesting work is happening. This seminar brings together the people doing that work, from STMicroelectronics and Hitachi to OVHcloud, Eviden and beyond. NVIDIA's own Kristin SCHUMANN will be on the programme at 14:00, talking through our strategy to support quantum industry players in Europe. The agreement represents the potential to deploy the NVIDIA Vera Rubin platform with up to 100,000 NVIDIA GPUs, with an initial commitment of $3.5 billion of compute. Nscale becomes Figure's preferred compute provider and a shareholder in the company. Physical intelligence is AI's next frontier, and it runs into the same constraint as everything else in AI: compute. Figure's Helix models get more capable with more of it. Rod Evans reacted on thisRod Evans reacted on thisWrapping up a very energizing visit to Egypt, where the momentum across the AI ecosystem is impossible to miss. 🇪🇬 It was great to spend time with founders, developers, investors and industry leaders at our NVIDIA Egypt Ecosystem Event, and to hear first-hand how local companies are building, scaling and putting AI into production. The evening featured perspectives from Paolo Guglielmini, Ahmed El-Zaher, CEO of Information Technology Industry Development Agency, ITIDA, and an excellent group of Egyptian AI builders from Algebra Ventures, AvidBeam, Cyberfuse, Marses Robotics Solutions and Proteinea, with Basil Fateen moderating the discussion. Ahmed M. also shared how NVIDIA is supporting this ecosystem across the full AI stack — from accelerated infrastructure to the platforms and applications enabling the next generation of innovation. What I will take away from this visit is the ambition of the people building here and the strength of the community forming around them. Egypt has an exciting base of talent, entrepreneurship and ideas, and I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next. Beyond the event, I also had some really fruitful meetings with the builders of Egypt’s AI ecosystem. The ambition, technical depth and pace of innovation across the market are exciting to see first-hand. The first SiPearl Seine Server powered by Rhea1 is now installed at the HPE AI Factory Lab, marking an important milestone for the OpenCUBE-EU project and for the collaboration between Hewlett Packard Enterprise, SiPearl, and the broader ecosystem of partners involved ( KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Technical University of Munich, European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts - ECMWF, Semidynamics ) HPE has been working alongside the consortium from the early stages of the initiative on what represents more than a technology milestone. The installation demonstrates how European silicon, open-source software, and advanced cloud and HPC technologies can come together in a deployable platform blueprint. Beyond the technical achievement, this is a tangible example of what can be accomplished when industry, research, and public-private collaboration align to deliver real outcomes. As Europe continues to invest in AI, scientific computing, and sovereign digital capabilities, initiatives like OpenCUBE help strengthen the ecosystem, expand trusted technology choices, and lay the foundations for future cloud and HPC services - and HPE is proud 😊 to contribute to these efforts by helping bring European innovation from concept to implementation.
