Jonathan Herbert shared thisHow do you fit the entire physical world into a generative media model? 🌍🤯 Simple answer: You don't. ❌ Traditional models rely on static training memory - leading to reimagined buildings and hallucinated streets. You simply can't pack billions of Street View images into a model's weights. That’s why we’re bringing Maps Imagery Grounding to Google Flow! 🚀🗺️ Instead of relying on memory, Flow now pulls actual Google Street View imagery as precise spatial context at runtime 🗺️💡 This means you can beautifully restyle or animate real-world locations into anything you imagine - with the generations based on reality. What local spot or landmark are you restyling first? #GoogleFlow #GoogleMaps #GenerativeAI #DeepMind

Jonathan Herbert shared thisFor the past few months, I’ve had the opportunity to work on an incredible collaboration bridging the immersive world of #GoogleMaps #StreetView with the magic of Project Genie from #GoogleDeepMind. Building at the intersection of Street View and generative AI has been an absolute blast, and it wouldn't have been possible without such a fantastic team. https://lnkd.in/gw5HrVsP 🧞♂️🌎 #AI #Innovation #GoogleMaps #DeepMind #ProjectGenieSimulate real-world places with Project Genie and Street ViewSimulate real-world places with Project Genie and Street View

Jonathan Herbert shared thisDid a spot of #vibecoding with #Gemini and Apple's SHARP - drag-n-drop an image and convert it into a gaussian splat. Takes about 40s per image on my M3 Pro Macbook. Pretty fun! https://lnkd.in/gz5_kM6e #gsplat

Jonathan Herbert shared thisInspired by the Blender MCP posts earlier this month, I had a go at writing a Blender plugin that integrates #Gemini with function calling. Works surprisingly well for a few hours of hacking. Video 4x normal.

Jonathan Herbert liked thisJonathan Herbert liked thisIt is a proud moment when technology helps showcase a country's living heritage to the world. Today, Google Street View has officially arrived in Georgia! Traversing more than 13,000 km across the country was a technical milestone, but more than that, it was a journey of discovering Georgia's breathtaking natural beauty—from the snowy Caucasus peaks to the Black Sea—and experiencing the legendary warmth of the Georgian people first-hand. This launch would not have been possible without the passion and perseverance of a truly dedicated team. Huge thanks to my fellow Googlers Songran Jang, Cynthia Wei, Olga Skorokhodova, Marina Tarasova, Jodi Kovacs, Abigail Jaffe, Emily Roth, and our incredible local partners Aruzhan Meirkhanova, Bako Kheladze from Outpost | Eurasia. Special thanks also go to Tornike Jobava, Linda Tsurtsumia, Avtandil Kasradze and the whole Georgia's Innovation and Technology Agency for their vital support throughout the project, Irakli Nadareishvili MSc MRICS for co-hosting this launch and the local media for helping us share this milestone. Jonathan Herbert liked thisJonathan Herbert liked thisImagine generating AI videos and images based on actual, real-world locations. We're now making that possible by bringing Maps Imagery Grounding to Google Flow, letting you anchor your creations in Google Street View. 🗺️➡️🎬 You can stylize a historic landmark, reimagine your own neighborhood, or place a character on a specific street corner, knowing the AI is using real-world geometry as its foundation. Our team used this new capability to reimagine a quaint cable car among panoramic views in San Francisco. Amazing work Jonathan Herbert, Paul O'Hara, Mira Leung, Michelle Zhu, Heather Liu, Alexa Anastasio, Subha Rathnasabapathy, Ronny Votel and Ori Lefkovitz This is currently rolling out for places on Street View in the U.S. Check it out at flow.google!

Jonathan Herbert liked thisImagine driving down one of the most picturesque highways on the Pacific Coast (Highway 1) in a race car… now you can use Google DeepMind’s Project Genie, connected with Google Maps Street View, to bring that to life in vivid detail! At #GoogleIO, we announced that we are bringing Street View into Project Genie, so you can create and explore imaginative, interactive worlds anchored in real places. It’s such a creative use of our billions of Street View images. Project Genie is available now to eligible Google AI Ultra subscribers globally. More info: https://lnkd.in/gxnpbbkz

Jonathan Herbert liked thisJonathan Herbert liked thisAfter 5 years in the UK, I have 60 days to find a sponsor or lose everything. On the last Tuesday, my employer Envisics, a UK holographic display company I helped build for over five years, entered administration. I lost my job that day (not only me but the entire company people and staff). I'm on a Skilled Worker visa. The UK gives me 60 days to find a new licensed sponsor, or my wife and I have to leave the country we've called home since October 2021. 5 years of work. 5 years of taxes. 5 years of building a life, friends, routines, a flat we've made into a home, a community we love. My wife and I came here young. We grew up here. We have just 4 months left before I qualify for permanent residence, and 60 days could take all of it away. You don't spend 5 years in a place without it becoming yours. You can't simply pack up and leave a life. But that's what the UK is asking us to do, in 60 days. I'm reaching out to anyone who might be able to help. 🔹 PhD in nonlinear optics, Université Côte d'Azur, France 🔹 5+ years at Envisics developing holographic head-up displays for automotive AR 🔹 Filed a UK patent application (filed April 2026) : novel hologram computation methods 🔹 Computer-generated holography and deep learning for CGH (PyTorch, TensorFlow) 🔹 Building free-space optical setups from the ground up, interferometers, holographic benches, SLM/LCoS systems with waveguide pupil expanders 🔹 Calibration protocols for phase-accurate holographic imaging systems 🔹 Optical simulation (Zemax, Lumerical, FDTD, RCWA) 🔹 Metrology of waveguide HUDs, uniformity characterisation, MTF, distortion measurement, image quality evaluation 🔹 Characterisation of liquid crystal lenses and Pancharatnam-Berry phase gratings I'm open to roles in photonics, optical engineering, AR/VR display tech, computational imaging, or computational optics for industry or academia. I'm based in Milton Keynes, willing to relocate anywhere in the UK, and available to start immediately. Three ways you can help: 1️⃣ If your company holds a UK sponsor licence and is hiring in these areas, please reach out. Even a 15-minute conversation could change everything. 2️⃣ If you know someone who might be able to sponsor please share this post, or tag them in the comments. 3️⃣ If you've been through this yourself your advice would mean the world. A repost takes 2 seconds. For me and my wife, it could be the difference between staying in the country we love and losing everything we've built. I can share my CV. #OpenToWork #Hiring #Photonics #OpticalEngineering #ARVR #Holography #UKJobs #SkilledWorkerVisa #Sponsorship

Jonathan Herbert liked thisJonathan Herbert liked thisDistraction is a modern malaise, and the blame seems to land at the feet of the technology companies and their addictive products. So the solution naturally seems to be to try to impose systems on their usage, or stop using them altogether. You can set a time limit for how long you can look at Instagram. You can buy a little plastic brick that promises to give back control of your time by restricting access to distracting apps. Fine. Deleting these apps, putting your phone away, other hacks and tricks can work. But what I don’t hear anyone talking about or questioning is the activities that we are being distracted from. I am not checking my phone while I am out running. I am not wondering what notifications I’m missing when I’m on the race track. When I am practicing my piano I am in a similarly meditative state where I am not looking at my phone. The same when I am writing. Even when I am helping my kid paint his mini figures I am immersed in the task and a couple of hours can pass without any distraction at all. When I did a parachute jump I wasn’t looking at my phone as the earth rushed towards me. When I am in the zone, when I am in flow, when I am working on something meaningful, I am far less distractible. The point is this. Maybe a lot of distraction comes about because the thing that distracts us is more interesting than the thing we’re being distracted from. And if that is the case, maybe part of the solution is to do more interesting, exciting and engaging things in the first place.

Jonathan Herbert liked thisI'm jazzed to be joining Paramount to build amazing products, blending cutting-edge technology with human creativity in exciting ways!Jonathan Herbert liked thisGreat products start with great people – which is why I’m thrilled to welcome Marek Gorecki to Paramount as our new SVP of Front End Engineering. He joins us from Google, where he helped build next-generation experiences across Maps, AR/VR, and AI for billions of users. I’ve worked closely with him for many years and what stands out most is his focus on using technology to create intuitive, human-centered experiences that seamlessly fit into everyday life. As we continue to bring together our engineering organization and invest in the future of our product experiences, Marek will play a key role in shaping our frontend strategy and building products that resonate at global scale. Attracting leaders like Marek is a strong signal of where we’re headed — building a team that operates at scale, embraces emerging technologies, and reimagines what great digital experiences can be. Welcome to the team, Marek!

From Streaming to the Agentic Era: Conviva’s Academic Roots Over 15 years ago, Conviva’s founders at Carnegie Mellon and UC Berkeley asked a deceptively simple question: “Can we measure and improve experience quality on the internet—at scale?” That question gave rise to the world’s first real-time streaming analytics platform, introducing concepts like Quality of Experience and perceptual performance metrics that became industry standards. Fast-forward to 2025, and that same academic foundation now powers the agentic era—where AI agents are the new “streams” of interaction. Just as video streaming required visibility into every viewer, buffer, and bitrate, AI agents demand continuous, outcome-based visibility into every user query, action, and response. The principle remains the same: Measure what the user experiences, not just what the system outputs. Conviva’s Operational Data Platform applies the same scientific rigor that transformed streaming to today’s AI agent ecosystems—linking every engagement pattern to outcomes like purchases, bookings, and resolved support requests. From video to AI, one truth holds: If you can measure experience, you can optimize outcomes. #AgenticAI #AIObservability #VideoAnalytics #OutcomePerformanceAnalytics #Conviva
